Jaguars have been manufactured since the early 1800’s and have had a wide variety of models and designs over the years. These include the XJ6, XJ-S, XK8 and F-Pace. Jaguar XJ6

The XJ6 is one of the most important Jaguar models in history. This slick and elegant vehicle combines a sleeker shape with a more modern interior. It was the first all-new Jaguar model since 1961. It was also the last car styled by Sir William Lyons .

The XJ6 replaced the S-type. This two-door coupe retained the shorter standard-wheelbase. It was available in both a sedan and a full convertible. Its style continued to evolve in the successor models. The XJ6 was the first British car to feature all-LCD dashboard displays.

It was also the first British car to be powered by a turbocharged engine. The 3.2-litre and 4.0-litre engines were the same as those in the XJ40.

Jaguar XK8

What some people don’t know is that there are two filters that work hard for your comfort and the health of your vehicle. The two filters that work hardest for the air you breath are the engine air filter and the in-cabin air filter. These filters are extremely important and it is a great idea to get to know the facts.

Types of Vehicle Air Filters

Engine Air Filter

The engine air filter is like an engine’s armor. Without air flow, the engine does not work and without clean air flow, the engine won’t work for long. The engine works hard to bring power and movement to your vehicle and, all the while, it is taking in air. Without an intake filter in place, large particles or objects could be sucked into the engine – this could cause unthinkable amounts of damage.

In-Cabin Air Filter

The quality of the air in our vehicle is very important. The cabin air filter takes in air from outside and filters out particulates. This can include, pollen, dirt, mold or any other forms of matter that might otherwise be breathed in. Filters that have carbon in them will also be able to absorb harmful chemicals, odors and other contaminants that could cause you alarm or discomfort.

Materials Used for Vehicle Air Filters

Like most things, there are several different versions of the same type of filter and several different materials used to get the job done. There are four common materials used in most vehicle air filters. The most common vehicle air filter materials are foam, paper/wood pulp, cotton gauze and metal mesh.

Foam:

Foam filters are typically seen as a sheet component that can be removed and cleaned or replaced. These filters get clogged very easily in dusty climate regions. Foam vehicle air filters can be cleaned, but you will want to keep a good eye on the quality of the foam. Some foam can break down easily with time, wear and cleaning and it will need replaced if it starts to fall apart. It’s great to be able to reuse items, just make sure you are buying quality first and foremost.

Paper or Wood Pulp Fiber:

This is the most popular type of vehicle air filter. You will see more variety and variations of this filter than any other. These filters will need to be replaced more often, but they are incredibly reliable. Paper or wood pulp fiber materials can become clogged easily and are made of the cheapest material possible, but they are typically the best option.

Cotton Gauze:

The manufacturers claim the cotton gauze vehicle air filters increase power, but they only help minimally if at all. These filters are typically after market and are not recommended by most vehicle manufacturers. These filters typically have oil covering them, so they will attract more dirt and grime, making them susceptible to failure via clogs and obstructions of airflow. Luckily, these filters can be cleaned. You will typically only ever need to buy one of these filters. Just make sure to clean and reoil it regularly for the best performance within your vehicle.

Metal:

These filters are made with tightly woven mesh made of stainless steel and do not require oiling. These types of air filters are less reliable for air quality because metal cannot catch small particulates as well as a finer fiber like cotton, wood pulp or foam. Metal air filters are the is the least popular type of filter.

Camber – Camber is the angle of the wheel relative to it being straight up and down. You might see negative camber on sports cars or highly modified street racing vehicles. Use of negative camber can make it so a tire has a better grip on the road and especially with turning corners.

It can be hard to keep track of what needs to be serviced when. To help, we’ve created this guide to scheduled maintenance services. While the exact timeline of each vehicle may vary slightly depending on environment and driving habits, this list can still help you be aware of when you have maintenance coming up.

Scheduled Maintenance Service Timelines

Tires

Your tires are literally what connects the rest of your vehicle to the road. Issues with your tires can be deadly; that’s why proper tire maintenance is so important.

Tire Rotation

Tire rotation helps keep wear even across all 4 tires. This, in turn, helps provide a safer ride, protects your undercarriage, and can even help keep fuel efficiency up. The exact timeline for tire rotation will be in your owner’s manual. Typically, tires should be rotated every 6,000 to 8,000 miles.

At-home checks

In addition to tire rotation, it’s important to be doing your own regular checks to make sure your tires are good.

Tire Pressure

It’s important to make sure that your tires aren’t under- or over-inflated. Either of these can cause issues with your tire. An at home tire-pressure gauge lets you quickly get a reading.

Depth Check

In addition to tire pressure, it’s important to check for proper tire tread depth. The United States Department of Transportation suggest replacing tires once they get to 2/32” or lower. Anything less than that won’t give you adequate traction, increasing your risk for an accident.

An easy way to check depth without breaking out the ruler is by using a penny. Stick a normal penny into the tread of your tire with Lincoln’s head facing down. If there is space between the tread wall and the top of the president’s head, it’s time to get new tires.

Oil Changes

You likely already know that oil changes are one of the most regular maintenance services you perform for your car. Engine oil is extremely important for lubricating your engine parts and keeping things running smoothly. Unfortunately, engine oil can become polluted with dirt, metal, and other particles over time. That’s why it’s important to stay on top of oil change schedules.

Oil changes are typically performed ever 3 months or 5,000 miles, depending on whichever comes first. Depending on the type of synthetic oil is used, you may be able to last 10,000. However, it’s always best to go based on the timelines prescribed by your mechanic.

30-60-90 Rule

Tires and oil are the two most frequent maintenance tasks that need to be performed on your vehicle. However, there are still other parts of your vehicle that need maintenance as well. a 30-60-90 rule applies to many of these other maintenance services, since these schedules typically fall within these time increments.

30,000 Miles

Air filter and fuel filters are both important for maintaining optimal engine performance. If either is clogged, your fuel economy and the function of your engine can both be negatively impacted. Air filters ought to be replaced every 15,000-30,000 miles. Fuel filters should be replaced every 30,000 miles. If you live in a dustier climate, these timelines may move up.

60,000 Miles

These are several important aspects of your braking system that should be addressed before you hit the 60,000 mile mark. Rotors, Brake pads, and fluid levels should all be changed roughly every 45,000-50,000 miles. An issue with any one of these components of your braking system can have serious consequences.

Your battery is also something that should be changed every 50,000 to 60,000 miles (roughly every five years depending on driving habits).

Coolant and transmission fluid should also be changed out every 30,000 to 60,000 miles.

90,000 Miles

At 90,000 it’s important to have your timing belt and hoses checked out. Both of these components are subject to failure over time, which can result in catastrophe.

Finally, your power steering fluid also typically needs to be flushed every 75,000 miles. This fluid is important for maintaining an easy steering experience.
